Mirai Kuriyama is the lone survivor of a clan of Spirit World fighters who wield their own blood as weapons. Consequently, she is charged with hunting and slaying the youmu—beings said to embody humanity"s darkest emotions. One afternoon, while lost in thought atop the school roof, Mirai encounters Akihito Kanbara, a rare half‑youmu who appears human. In a moment of panic she thrusts her blood‑blade into him, only to discover he is an immortal creature. From that instant the pair forge a reluctant friendship, with Mirai repeatedly attempting to kill Akihito in an effort to shore up her faltering confidence as a Spirit World warrior. Eventually, Akihito persuades her to join the Literary Club, where two other formidable Spirit World fighters—Hiroomi and Mitsuki Nase—already belong. As the trio"s camaraderie deepens, so does the ferocity of the surrounding youmu. Their escapades soon evolve into a battle for survival as the most powerful youmu, Beyond the Boundary, draws nearer. Their shared past and doubts create a fragile bond that strengthens with each confrontation in the face of looming danger.
