In 2017, Europe faces an invasion by the Holy Britannian Empire. To counter the crushing pressure and halt heavy losses, the army creates a special squad named Wyvern, or W‑0, made up of former Japanese residents called the 'Elevens.' Drawn from slums, these young men and women command Knightmare frames—humanoid war machines—in perilous missions where death is inevitable, hoping to earn renown. Their resolve is tested by assaults, into battlefield legends and the hope of a calm.
When a European unit trying to reclaim a key city is trapped by the enemy, W‑0 must intervene. Among those chosen for the extraction is Lieutenant Akito Hyuuga, dubbed 'Hannibal's Ghost' because of his battlefield skill. Yet the rescue turns fatal when, in a bid to eliminate as many Britannians as possible, the commander activates the Knightmare"s self‑destruct. In the aftermath, Akito discovers he is the sole survivor in darkness… The Knightmare lay scattered, that follows catastrophe in the void as smoke cleared, he felt a calm.
