Susanoo, the youngest offspring of the primordial deities Izanagi and Izanami, is a formidable fighter who can defeat tigers with his bare hands in the ancient myths. When his mother perishes, he is heartbroken. Resolute to seek her in Heaven, he fashions a boat from a tree and, together with his rabbit ally Akahana, readies himself to traverse the sea. Lacking knowledge of how to reach Heaven, Susanoo first consults his brother Tsukuyomi, ruler of the Night Realm, and his sister Amaterasu, sovereign of the Light Realm. Although they can caution him about impending perils, they cannot halt his quest or give him a route to Heaven. His journey is marked by fierce trials and never ever. As he presses onward toward the world"s edge, an eight‑headed dragon named Orochi awakens to block his path in the endless sky.
