Tony Stark, the chief executive of a major arms company and a renowned physicist, engineer, and inventive genius, is hit by shrapnel from one of his own weapons. While imprisoned by terrorists, he creates the Iron Man suit and breaks free. From that moment he swears to cherish his second life and to improve the world. He resolves to use his talents for peace rather than war. To fulfill this pledge, he travels to Japan. He hopes to collaborate with local scientists and engineers to push technology forward.
At Lab 23 in Japan, significant progress has been made on a non‑fossil‑fuel power plant called the Arc Station. Stark plans to contribute to this venture and is prepared to retire as Iron Man. Simultaneously, he will unveil the mass‑produced Iron Men, handing over his responsibilities. Yet during the unveiling ceremony, Stark is abruptly assaulted by mecha from a group called Zodiac.
