Two mermaid sisters, Marin and Urin, live in the ocean depths, communicating with relatives as well as fish, turtles, and other marine life. Marin, however, is constantly drawn upward—to the Sky, as sea creatures call everything that lies above the water"s surface. One day a chance presented itself: the sisters found a beautiful ring, and Marin was struck with the idea of returning it to its owner. So Marin and Urin swam up and arrived on a small island whose inhabitants were all celebrating, except for a girl named Canon who sat alone, sulking. Her boyfriend had left her, and in her anger she threw the ring—his gift—into the sea. After a series of adventures in the unfamiliar world of humans, the sisters eventually found Canon and returned the ring… only for her to throw it again—this time into a forest thicket, in an abandoned temple. From there fate takes over—the meeting of Marin (the Sea Maiden) and Canon (the Sky Maiden) awakens an ancient evil that threatens not only the lonely island but the entire world…
