Already exhausted and at his wit's end, 29‑year‑old office drone Seiichirou Kondō suddenly sees the earth split open and swallow a woman. While trying to rescue her, both of them are thrust into a different realm. He quickly discovers that the inhabitants of this land have called upon a holy figure to protect their realm from a deadly pestilence. In return for bringing Kondō into the chaos, the realm promises him a pleasant existence and will grant any wish he desires. Surprisingly to all, Kondō requests employment. After securing a position as an accountant in the Royal Court, Kondō commits fully to his duties. His precise and diligent performance draws notice from many senior officials and knights, notably Aresh Indolark, the stern Knight Captain. As Kondō acclimates to his demanding and perilous surroundings, he starts finding comfort in Aresh's presence, whose frosty exterior might merely be a mask in the kingdom.
