1944, summer of the Shōwa era during the war's final chapter. Tamaru, a soldier dreaming of becoming a manga artist, found himself on Peleliu Island during the final days of the Pacific conflict. The island presented a paradise, lush forests and encircled by coral reefs. Yet it was also a battlefield where 50,000 Japanese and U.S. soldiers fought to the death.
