Description

1944, summer of the Shōwa era during the war's final chapter. Tamaru, a soldier dreaming of becoming a manga artist, found himself on Peleliu Island during the final days of the Pacific conflict. The island presented a paradise, lush forests and encircled by coral reefs. Yet it was also a battlefield where 50,000 Japanese and U.S. soldiers fought to the death. At that moment, 40,000 elite American forces launched an assault to capture a prized airfield regarded as the finest in East Asia. A garrison of 10,000 Japanese troops was instructed to confront the attackers and "endure the onslaught" fully. What motivated them, and what occupied their thoughts on this remote island far from home? A forgotten testimony of truth from youth who lived through the war era, in the heat of battle.
