Ron Kamonohashi, once the top pupil of the prestigious Detective Training Academy BLUE, has been a hermit ever since the institution expelled him five years earlier. He lives in a secluded cabin on the outskirts of the city, avoiding contact with anyone. He is barred from practicing as a detective, having narrowly escaped capital punishment after being implicated in a homicide while still enrolled. His isolation ends when police investigator Totomaru Isshiki, acting on a senior's recommendation, tracks him down to request aid with an unsolved case that has lingered for months. Ron begrudgingly agrees, and within a day he uses his extraordinary instinct to pinpoint the killer. Yet an inexplicable affliction seems to endanger everyone around him, manifesting as a subtle aura that gradually saps the life force of those nearby. Astonishingly, Totomaru saves a young officer that Ron had inadvertently endangered.
As the unlikely pair tackles case after case, BLUE dispatches agents to locate their former prodigy and determine whether he has resumed investigations.
