The tally of terror incidents in Japan has never dipped lower, thanks to the work of a group called Direct Attack (DA). The outfit trains orphaned girls into killers for its "Lycoris" scheme. Takina Inoue stands out as a top Lycoris, driven by purpose and obsessed with perfection. A hostage crisis tests her patience; the ensuing act of defiance forces her transfer out of DA. Unhappy to lose the only home she knew, she begrudgingly heads to her new station—LycoReco, a café masquerading as normal.

She drags Takina into a series of odd errands, claiming it"s to help those in need. Confused further when Chisato neutralizes a gang of armed attackers without killing them, Takina feels like an outsider.
