Our main protagonist, Arata Miyako, is a newly appointed employee at the district office of the regional Midnight Department for Relations. In each of Tokyo"s 23 wards there is an office established to handle situations involving paranormal activity and occult practices. Arata, assigned to such an office in Shinjuku, possesses a special ability – he can understand non‑human speech. On his very first work shift, Arata encounters a yokai in the park that mistakes him for the legendary Heian‑era exorcist Abe no Seimei.
