The brass band of the Northern High School in the town of Udzhi is going through a rough patch. The alumni who form its core have lost their spark, there are very few second‑year students, and competitions have been forgotten. Hope arrived in the form of a new music teacher – young but already well‑known in the right circles, Noboru Taki – and, of course, with newcomers. After all, Kyoto is nearby, the cultural capital of Japan, and the concentration of young musicians in the area is simply extraordinary. Kumiko Omae joined the band largely out of inertia – she had been playing since elementary school. Together with her new friends, the bassist Sapphire and Hazuki, who chose the bass tuba, she quickly realized that "there is no harmony among comrades"; stale conflicts simmer in the group and many people simply don"t want to do anything. Taki‑sensei shook up the sleepy swamp, and now Kumiko has to decide whether she will go with the sluggish majority or with people like the maximalist Reina. I think the answer is clear to you?
