Yukio "Koyuki" Tanaka, a fourteen‑year‑old who feels aimless, has his world turned around after he rescues an odd dog named Beck from a gang of neighborhood kids. The dog"s owner, sixteen‑year‑old Ryuusuke "Ray" Minami, is a budding guitarist and former member of a well‑known rock group. When Koyuki encounters Ray again at a diner, the older teen shows him the old rehearsal spot of his former band and blows Koyuki away with his prodigious guitar playing. Drawn to the allure of Western rock, Koyuki resolves to learn the instrument and help Ray realize his ambition of forming a top‑tier band. Together with Ray"s younger sister Maho and several other musicians, the duo launches a career in rock by creating a band named BECK. The story follows their trials and triumphs as the group gains popularity across Japan. Their music resonates with listeners nationwide, turning them into a household name within months.
