Shina Tsubasa is a 10‑year‑old girl who has just relocated to Hokkaido to live with her father. At school she remains very quiet and keeps distance from classmates. One evening she sees a UFO crash in the woods close to her house. She hurries to the wreckage and discovers the pilot, called "D.D.", barely conscious. A Maguar—a grotesque alien that hatched aboard D.D."s vessel—also appears. When the Maguar threatens to kill Tsubasa, an alien organism merges with her, creating the Riberus battle armor Figure 17, which quickly annihilates the threat. The organism adopts the name Hikaru and becomes an identical twin of Tsubasa. Over time, Tsubasa opens up to those around her thanks to her new sister Hikaru. Yet with Maguar eggs scattered across Hokkaido, their power to summon Figure 17 is essential for wiping out every hatched Maguar until reinforcements from D.D."s home planet reach Earth. Their mission is to safeguard the local wildlife and protect human communities from potential alien incursions in the future.
