Set in earlier times, it presents the Saiyuuki group before they unite and their westward expedition. The initial OVA opens with Sanzo alongside his mentor, featuring Ukoku (later identified as Ni Jianyi). The second OVA depicts the first encounter between Goku and Sanzo. The third OVA explores events following Hakkai"s transgressions, his subsequent trial (as seen in the first Saiyuuki season), and his choice to reside at Gojyo"s home in the distant past for good.
