In the near future, mankind takes its inaugural steps toward exploring the galaxy"s distant horizons. During this venture it encounters a vast insectoid species called "Space Monsters." These beings appear intent on annihilating humanity as they draw ever closer to Earth. To counter this threat, humans create colossal combat machines piloted by carefully selected youths from across the globe.
Soon after the aliens are discovered, Noriko Takaya—daughter of a celebrated fallen space commander—joins a training academy despite doubts about her piloting skills.
