Five hundred years from now, Shinichi Kakimoto embarks on a school excursion to the historic Japanese capital of Nara, now embodied by an artificial‑intelligence rendition of Himiko, Japan"s earliest recorded ruler. Amid the turmoil of sidestepping ravenous deer, Shinichi becomes detached from his classmates and encounters Toto, an odd girl who insists she has never ventured beyond her home. Together they wander the streets, forging a connection that will be challenged when hostile hunters pursue Toto beneath towering cedar trees within the timeless cityscape.
