Even after death, existence remains cluttered with paperwork and wrongdoers. Tsuzuki Asato is a 26‑year‑old, carefree, and clumsy shinigami (the god of death) whose duty is to guarantee that the deceased stay dead and occupy their rightful domains. Though he has served in this role for more than 70 years, he occupies the lowest tier with meager wages. He also struggles to keep a partner—shinigami normally work in pairs—but now he appears to have one who will stay: stubborn, sharp‑tongued, serious, and protective 16‑year‑old Kurosaki Hisoka. Each investigation draws them nearer to the plots of serial killer Dr. Muraki Kazutaka. Tsuzuki"s bond with Hisoka deepens, yet a grim secret surrounding Tsuzuki"s own death keeps him restless. As the shadows lengthen, they must confront both the living's sins and their own hidden fears before dawn breaks and hope.
