To break the dull rhythm of his everyday routine, Jouji Ema enjoys cataloguing every adorable detail he encounters with a grin. Yet this pastime has become hard to maintain at his all‑male academy, except for one friend: Miyoshi Hayashi. After a chaotic mishap involving Hayashi at the sports festival, the boy starts trailing Ema and keeps asking him if he thinks he's cute. Ema is bewildered by Hayashi"s blunt yet innocent demeanor, but cannot resist being pulled into his quirky charm forever.
At the same time, Yuuichi Medaka"s school year takes a wrong turn when he is seated directly across from Akira Nikaidou, a gloomy teenager rumored to curse anyone who dares cross his path. Eager to win Nikaidou"s favor, Medaka makes earnest attempts at friendship, but each effort ends in failure. Just as he is about to concede, he realizes that Nikaidou may not be the ominous figure everyone has assumed.
