Because her mother travels for work, Chizuko Date has never been able to settle in one place or form lasting attachments. While temporarily lodging with her grandfather Suikyou, she witnesses an extraordinary sight: a magical girl named Berry Blossom battling Chroma, a member of the malevolent organization Fossa Magna. Watching Berry Blossom triumph sparks a fervor in Chizuko, and she vows to become an ardent supporter of the new heroine in town. Her enthusiasm grows as she follows Berry's adventures, hoping to see her again. Over time Berry Blossom's fame wanes as her adversary proves inept. When Chizuko stumbles upon Chroma in person, she does not hesitate to vent her grievances. Her frustration is palpable as she recounts the humiliations inflicted upon her beloved heroine. For him, repeated defeats are intolerable; Fossa Magna threatens to force his resignation if he keeps losing. Desperate, Chroma implores Chizuko to join him as his deputy and aid him in further villainy. He pleads that together they could overturn the balance of power and bring chaos to their enemies.
