In the ancient land of Ryoza, the neighboring realms of Shin-Ou and Tai-Kou have long existed in harmony. Queen Shinou governs the kingdom, while her chief commander, Grand Duke Taikou, protects it with an army of formidable war-lizards known as the Touda. Though the two lands have maintained a durable alliance, rising discord now threatens to ignite a brutal civil conflict.
In the Tai-Kou village of Ake, charged with training the Grand Duke"s forces, lives Erin, a keen young woman who watches her mother Soyon, the village"s leading Touda healer. While under Soyon's care, a catastrophic mishap strikes the Grand Duke"s strongest Touda, and the peace that Erin and her mother enjoyed shatters as Soyon is harshly punished. In a frantic bid to save her mother, Erin falls into a river and is carried toward Shin-Ou.
Unable to return home, Erin must adapt to a new life among unfamiliar people, all while seeking the truth about both beasts and humanity itself, as tensions between the two regions continue to rise. Each day the conflict grows, and Erin feels the weight of destiny.
