Despite their loss, the surviving elements of the Taipingtao uprising persist in defiance, dragging China into a seemingly endless conflict. The sorrow and fury left by the rebellion"s staggering casualties begin to coalesce into a toxic fog, birthing malignant entities known as "wangliang." These beings can infiltrate humans and transform them into nightmarish demons, thereby causing further fatalities and spreading the haze in a self‑reinforcing loop that deepens the land"s misery.
To counter this threat, the immortal beings called "Tianyuan" select certain souls to become "Hunters." They are accompanied by the "Guizhan," warriors forged by the Tianyuan that can absorb the haze and morph into demons themselves, becoming essential weapons against the wangliang.
After a tragic mishap involving an out‑of‑control Guizhan leads to the dissolution of the Sixth Hunter Unit, the Tianyuan appoint three talented Hunters—Ji Ying, Qiao Xun, and Yan Ding—to rebuild the squad. For reasons unknown, they also enlist Xiao Ling, the young Guizhan whose error caused the former unit"s collapse, to fight beside the trio. Despite rising friction, the newly formed team must reconcile their differences and harness their powers together to defeat the common foe. Their united resolve becomes the last beacon of hope against the encroaching darkness.
