From antiquity onward, sword‑bearing shrine maidens have been banishing "aratama," bizarre entities that endanger humanity. These young women, clad in school uniforms and carrying swords, are known as "Toji" and form an official police unit called the "special religious service police squad." The state permits Toji to wield swords and act as public officials, establishing five nationwide schools for them. Each spring, the top Toji from each institution enter a competition. As the event nears, every participant trains intensively to grow stronger and refine their abilities.
