The setting unfolds on the continent of Babel, where a towering Babel spires dominate seven sovereign states. When alchemy was first discovered, it became a weapon of war that nearly annihilated humanity; consequently the seven states signed an uneasy truce and banned alchemy for centuries. In Continental Year 911, the kingdom of Lustrice violated that agreement by raising a force empowered by alchemy and seeking to seize the entire continent. Under Envylia"s command, the remaining six realms united, defeated Lustrice, and again cast alchemy into shadow. Yet twenty years after that conflict, alchemical disturbances once more erupt across the land. The echoes of that war haunt the people, and rumors swirl about forgotten relics capable of restoring or destroying alchemical power.
